Grammy Fashion, Hits and Misses

Unfortunately, the Grammy's didn't follow suit and play the awards live on the west coast like the Golden Globes did.  Needless to say, this sick girl will not be staying up 'til 11 to actually see the awards through until the end.  Good thing the red carpet is on first, because that's my favorite part anyway.

Here are my absolute faves:

1. 2.
3. 4.

1. Keri Hilson looks amazing in this dress.  This is one of those red carpet dresses I would actually pick out for myself!
2. Lea Michelle looks so young and fun in the super cute dress!  Love it!
3. Can I just say, I would kill to look like Marissa Miller.  Nothing really special about her dress, but I think she looks great!
4. I absolutely love Pink's dress, the up-close detail on camera was beautiful.  Now if it was just on a different person I'd really be in love. Even though I'm not a Pink fan, I have to give the girl credit; her dress was great and her performance was amazing.

The Misses (No Surprises Here):

1. 2.

1. Brittney... please seek a new stylist. Pronto!
2. It was no surprise that Lady Gaga would show up in something outrageous, but come on.  Giorgio Armani Prive, or not, it's ridiculous.  I really wasn't even sure if it was her or not because it was the first time she really showed her face without a crazy mask or something.  The only other time I saw her without glasses or something on her face was on her Barbara Walter's interview, and I think she looks way different here.

Now,  I love both of these women, but I haven't made up my mind on these yet:

1. 2.

1. I just can't decide if I love or hate this.  I think maybe if she hadn't worn those huge earrings, and had put her hair up I would've liked the whole look more!
2.  The back of this dress is very cool, but I don't love the fabric.  For the Grammy's I think someone so young should have worn something more fun!

Sarah's House

Today, during my 8th hour on the couch, remote and Sprite in hand, I stumbled upon what is now my favorite show on HGTV.  Years ago I loved a show called Design Inc., where the host Sarah took you through the projects she worked on for her interior design firm.  It wasn't about designing a room solely out of furnishings from Goodwill, or spending less than $500, it was just about great design, and I loved her style.  Now, Sarah has a new show called Sarah's House and I'm in love.  Here's the premise of the show:

Follow interior designer Sarah Richardson through the entire process of purchasing a house and renovating it room by room. She starts by buying the worst house in a good neighborhood — a true fixer-upper that oozes with potential. Learn what to look for and what to avoid when house hunting with a renovation in mind. Get inside Sarah's creative mind as she decides what stays and what goes. See her do it all — budgeting, conceptualizing, managing dusty, disastrous renovations — while creating stylish touches that are her trademark. Let Sarah's House empower you with the knowledge you need to tackle your own whole-house redesign. It's nail-biting drama, practical know-how and jaw-dropping, inspiring ideas all rolled into one exciting show!

Now, I don't know about "nail-biting drama," but I love this show.  She finds great auctions pieces, spends her money on the more worthy rooms, and gets more crafty in less used rooms like the guest room.   In my fantasy world I've always wanted to find a diamond in the rough in a great neighborhood and completely re-do it to fit our family perfectly.  I also love the idea of completing one room at a time completely to avoid all of the confusion, and it makes for a great show.  I guess you could say I'm living vicariously through this show, because CAhusband and I agreed after our feuds over furniture that we could never handle building a house, or even renovating for that matter.

**There are way better rooms than this, this is just the only one I could get to save.

Sarah's House airs on HGTV on Saturday nights at 8:30 p.m.

Note: After searching online, I realized this show is actually from HGTV Canada, and this is the second home/season she's re-done, and that there's actually another show Sarah's Cottage where she does the same thing with like a lake house/cottage.  Too cute!

24, Sick, and Tired

This birthday girl (yes it was yesterday, I'm claiming the whole weekend) is as sick as can be.  The dinner plans with my parents for last night had to be canceled, and CAhusband and I's shopping trip to Southern CA's mall of malls (South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa) to find a new purse has also been put on hold.  I slept from about 5 p.m. last night to about 8 a.m. this morning in hopes that the medicine would start working and 15 hours of sleep would do the trick.... wrong!  Luckily I slept really well, but now feel as crummy as ever.

CAhusband got me a birthday cake last night, and that's about all I've had an appetite for.  Today my plan is to snuggle up on the couch and watch as many movies as possible, while maybe getting a few loads of laundry done.

As I said on Facebook yesterday, feeling like death on your 24th birthday can't be a good sign of things to come in the next year.  Now I'm just praying I'll feel much better soon, so my birthday weekend isn't a complete waste.

And just in case you were wondering, this is definitely me feeling sorry for myself!

Happy Birthday Kristin!

Not only is today my birthday, but it is my friend Kristin's birthday as well! We both moved to our new school in Yorktown in third grade where we were in different classes, and we eventually discovered we also shared the same birthday on our walk to the principal's office for our birthday pencils! I will never forget that day, I even remember what we both were wearing. It's hard for me to remember a time since then that we haven't been friends.

Kristin and I were pretty inseparable through high school, and although we live far apart now and see each other rarely, I know we'll always have a special bond. We shared so many activities throughout the years, and it's hard to imagine what growing up without Kristin would have been like.
Every birthday I'm reminded of our special friendship, and the at least 7 wonderful birthday parties we hosted together. Kristin, I hope your birthday is amazing! I love you and miss you!

New J. Crew Spring Arrivals

J. Crew recently re-stocked their very empty stores with a huge new spring collection. Of course, this is bad-news-bears for this girl, but I'll show you some of my favorites regardless. Even if I'm not buying, they sure are fun to look at (and add to my online shopping cart, just to see how much it would cost if I really did buy it all).

I think this dress would be so cute for a casual wedding. We have a beach wedding in July that this could be perfect for! We have this dress in a solid navy color in the store, and the fabric is beautiful and the silhouette looks great IRL.

This gauzy linen sweater is sooo cute! I haven't tried in on yet because I'm afraid I'll want to buy it, and the $98 pre-discount price is a little steep!

Lilac Shower Shift Dress

I love this dress, but haven't seen it in person because it's online/catalog only. I think it's so pretty and feminine, and looks really cute belted; although CAhusband hates belts unless they go in belt loops!

I love this shirt! I think it's screams my name and I can't wait to get it soon! We have it in a very pretty cayenne pepper color in our store (not available online) that is so pretty.

This silk sleeveless blouse is the same pretty much every season just with a new twist on the ruffles and some new colors. I doubt I'll ever actually purchase this shirt, but I love the silk loops, and this pretty pale pink color.

After working at J. Crew for 60 days you qualify for $200 of free clothes (full price, no discount). Knowing that I wear spring/summer clothes most of the year here, I intentionally saved my $200 until this new roll-out. This week I was able to grab 3 new items that I absolutely love that I did not feature above. I think I'll post about these cute new things a little later on.

Anything you fellow J. Crew lovers out there want to buy?

Bye, Bye Bronze

I've posted about my love for Bobbi Brown make-up before, and my need to slowly replace my hodge podge of random drug store make-up with new stuff that I love; and last week I made some more progress. (I don't mean to say drug store make-up isn't great, I will always have Target make-up that I love).

Recently, I ran out of my bronzer and decided I didn't want to go that route again. After looking at myself, I realized my bronzer was too dark, and un-natural looking, so I headed to Bobbi counter last week to find something new.

I was pretty sure I wanted to get a new Shimmer Brick, which I've always loved. It had been about a year since my last one had run out, but that was the dark bronze color. After using my sister's neutral shimmer brick over Christmas I decided to purchase one in "beige" shown below. On my fair and currently un-tanned skin, this shade looks so much better on me. It's just a hint of light bronze that illuminates. I'm absolutely in love with it.

While at the counter I of course found something else too! I'd been unhappy with my powder blush for awhile, and had been meaning to try a cream blush in either a pot or a stick. I found Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks in Calypso Coral, and it is beautiful. It's a pretty pink shade that brightens up my face and blends into my skin well without just sitting on top. I then brush on my shimmer brick over the top. I absolutely love the effect. It can also be used as like a lip stain, and looks great with a clear gloss on top. The photo below shows the product, but not the color I purchased. It's so nice to have 2 new make-up products that I love. It makes doing my make-up fun again, rather than something that's a chore, and I'm really happy with how these two products work together.

Me, a Lack for TV? Not so much!

Let's not beat around the bush, this little blogger watches way too much TV.... who cares! Although my DVR is nearly always full, I still need more; especially with the Olympics hogging the airways for a few weeks coming up (I mean seriously how many hours of skiing and skating can one watch).

We finally finished watching all of the seasons of House on DVD in November, and just aren't watching our Netflix anymore now that it's movies. Although we originally started watching House to get us through the TV-less summer, and we aren't at a shortage of TV to watch now, I miss having a series I can watch straight through.

So, now I'm asking for your opinion! True Blood or Mad Men?

True Blood
I'm afraid CAhusband might hate this Twilight-like vampire series from HBO, but have heard some good reviews from guys. Thoughts?
Mad Men
CAhusband actually kind of wants to watch this one, but thinks I'll hate it?!?! I like almost all popular TV, so I don't know how I could dislike a show that everyone loves so much.

Birthday Wishlist

I have to admit, this is absolutely the LATEST I have ever made a birthday wish-list! It's usually done right after Christmas, but this year I am pretty stuck! I could post pictures a mile long of cute clothes, but in all honesty, I don't need more clothes, so I'm going to try to not take that route today (that will come in it's own sweet time)!

What I really need for my birthday is a new purse! I have a large Coach bag that I've been carrying virtually every day for about the last 2 years. It's been great, but is beat to hell, and I'm ready for something new. Unfortunately, I'm not finding a ton of bags I love that are in my price range....
This Tory Burch bag is cute, but I don't know if I'm in love. I really want to see this in person, because it's in my price range and I've always admired Tory's bags. Maybe I'll be able to find this in person this weekend, and it will be perfect?
Tory Burch Bijou Hobo
Of course, when looking for a purse I can't overlook Louis Vuitton. I have a small LV that was a Christmas gift from my parents my senior year in High School. I still love it and use it, but I've outgrown it's small size, and need something larger for everyday use.
The Speedy 30 shown below is at the top of my current price range, but I might be looking into it more. I love the navy and ivory pattern, and although a spring/summer bag, I could definitely use it March-October here, where it's sunny and warm year round.

Speedy 30 Damier Azur Canvas

Now onto my "If I Had a Million Dollars" purse wish! Now this bag isn't even close to a million dollars, but would require some saving for a while to be able to purchase with my birthday money. I've been in love with this bag ever since it was released... a girl can dream.

Galliera PM Monogram Canvas

Any other great bags I'm missing out on (and I mean one I can afford)?

Monday Randomness

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. We just wrapped up a great 5 day visit from my in-laws who headed back to Indiana this morning. I think that CAhusband and I did a pretty good job having our first house guests, and are looking forward to lots of other family and friends planning visits soon!

-The rain finally stopped on Friday night, and I think we totaled somewhere around 5 inches of rain. This is way more than we usually get in a year, and was horrible timing for my in-laws visit, but what can you do?

-The Boilermakers pulled off a victory on Saturday, thank goodness! We were fearing our Boilers were overrated, but are now hopeful that they're making a comeback.

-We went to a great new restaurant/bar on Friday night, that I'm hoping to get back to again soon. They had an amazing pear rosemary martini that I'm now addicted to (not in the alcoholic way of course), and some great goat cheese appetizers that were right up my alley.

-We ate (and drank) way too much with CAhusband's parents here over the past 5 days, so this girl needs to get her butt to the gym soon! A friend of mine recently struck an awesome deal at a gym, so I'm hoping to get the same deal and get back to spinning at least 4 days a week very soon (hopefully by posting this I'll hold myself accountable).

-Sunday we made a quick stop at the Farmer's Market, and then headed to my parents house to watch the Colts game. We were VERY nervous about the Colts making a reappearance in the Super Bowl after the first half, but Manning pulled through and is taking the Colts to another Super Bowl in Miami in just 2 weeks. WOOHOO!

-Whoa, did my birthday sneak up on me.... just 4 days away! We have no plans to speak of, and CAhusband fears he will be working all weekend, so I'm trying not to get to worked up about it being a big affair. 24 is nothing too special, and we've had plenty of wonderful celebrations over the last year, so I'm just hoping we can enjoy a good dinner and maybe a movie?

-I'm heading into J.Crew for a few hours this evening, and we got a $h*t-ton of super cute new spring clothes in today. This is major bad-news-bears for this semi-employed girl, but oh well, I can't wait to try a bunch of cute new stuff on! Once it all hits the web here in a few days I'll definitely be posting pictures. : )

-With all of the chaos due to rain and house guests over the last week I neglected to dedicate a birthday post to my friend Randi! Randi, if you're reading this I hope you had a wonderful birthday, and I'm so sorry that my scattered brain missed your special day! I'm sure you had a wonderful weekend full of celebrations in Denver, and I miss you dearly!

Regularly scheduled (non-random) posts will continue tomorrow!

Love, Love, Love this Movie

As someone who has Something's Gotta Give on her favorite movies list, I had a feeling I would love this movie, and I was right! This movie has my name written all over it... great cast (Steve Martin- my fav), love triangle, and witty humor; it's right up my alley.

I don't quite know how to describe my love for this movie, but it's fabulous and will definitely be making the cut for movies to be added to the more permanent Blue-Ray (please let this be the last form of movies to be sold) collection once released. If you haven't seen this yet, GO. SEE. IT.

Quick Update

My blogging may be a little sporadic through the weekend because my in-laws are currently visiting : ). Just wanted to give you a quick little update though...

-We are currently getting the mother of all rain storms here in the CA desert just in time for my in-laws to visit... perfect! We've had rain off and on since Sunday night, and it should keep up through tomorrow. It's always so beautiful, sunny, and warm here; we're so bummed that this weather is keeping us indoors. We seriously get about 2 inches of rain a year, and got about an inch last night alone... yikes! I think we're off to see one of the movies on my "must see" list this afternoon.

-No Idol updates this week because I didn't think there was anything too exciting; although I do love Kristin Chenoweth! I was bummed to see she only judged one day of the Orlando auditions, and boy did she look super skinny!

-Less than 2 week 'til my birthday, and JCrew gets their new Spring collection next Monday.... perfect timing, no? I think a wish list is in order!

Happy Thursday everyone! I hope that your weather is better than ours here. : )

New Spring Reads Coming Soon

I've made it pretty clear how much I love to read, but I'm not sure all of you quite understand the lengths to which to nerdiness (is that a word?) goes. I check Amazon on a VERY regular basis to keep up to date on when my favorite authors are releasing their next books, and I update my Shelfari account with books I've finished or books I want to read quite often. Luckily, being this dorky bookworm pays off sometimes, because while searching upcoming spring releases on Amazon recently, I saw that two of my absolute favorite authors have new books coming out soon.
These two authors are Jodi Picoult and Emily Giffin, and these are their new books hitting the bookstore shelves this spring:

House Rules is released March 2, 2010

Heart of the Matter is released May 11, 2010

You can pre-order both on Amazon now!

Golden Globes 2010

What can I say, I love a good award show, and the Golden Globes are usually my favorite because of the mix of TV and movie awards. I was so excited to see what Ricky Gervais would do as host, and I think he did a great job overall. CAhusband and I are pretty big fans of his, and he definitely had us laughing out loud a few times. I was also really anxious to see who would take home the big awards. There were so many award worth shows and movies this year, and I was excited to see who would actually leave with the globe.

IMO, the Television categories were extremely tough to judge. Between all of the great shows on Showtime and HBO, the new hits like Modern Family and GLEE, and old standbys like The Office- I was rooting for everyone to win! I don’t know how they ever decided.

Movies were a little difficult for me to judge because as much as I wanted to see almost every movie nominated, I had only seen Julie and Julia, The Hangover, and UP. After watching the Golden Globes last night, I’m making a list of the movies that I missed out on and really need to see. Luckily, quite a few of them are still in theaters…
  • Avatar
  • Precious
  • Up in the Air
  • The Blind Side
  • It’s Complicated
  • Nine
  • 500 Days of Summer
  • Sherlock Holmes
  • Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
The Red Carpet is usually my favorite part, but I'm not gonna lie, I thought it was pretty boring last night. Maybe it was the rain and the umbrellas used as accessories, but no one really impressed me too much.

Penelope Cruz

If I had to pick one red carpet look that I loved, I think it would be this Giorgio Armani Privé black lace gown. I love myself a mermaid style dress, and always think Penelope looks great.

Mariah Carey
One website I read put it best when they said, "put your globes away Mariah!"
Everything she wears is way too tight.

Jennifer Aniston

I love Jennifer Aniston, but this dress really isn't anything too special, although I think she looks great.
Holy cow though, look at that slit all the way up her thigh.... jeez!

Drew Barrymore
I must say that I hate this Versace gown. Maybe it's the nude color that blends in with her skin, or the gigantic poof on her right hip, but the whole look just isn't working for me!

Overall, I wasn't too impressed with the fashion. What did you think?

Our Weekend!

CAhusband and I had a wonderful relaxing weekend. Friday night I had to work at JCrew (sensitive subject), and CAhusband relaxed at home nursing his cold. Once I got home we caught up on some of the week's TV, and got to bed nice and early.

Saturday we woke up early to do some major organizing in anticipation of our master bedroom furniture delivery. We had to clear the guest room of all of the boxes that we were storing there and move our original furniture into the guest room. The delivery people came right on time and set up all of our new furniture, and we're thrilled with it. Despite the fact that it's big furniture for a small room, we love having a huge king size bed and it is heaven! Reilly is a little peeved because this bed is much higher and she can't just hop right up there any more. We feel really bad because she looks pretty sad, but it is so nice to have such a big bed and no dog to hop up once we fall asleep.

Saturday continued by lucking out with some bedding we love at Target (who knew?), suffering through another Purdue loss (what the hell boilermakers, 3 in a row from a formally ranked #4 team), and then watching the Colts kick butt against the Ravens.

Sunday was another lazy day for the most part. CAhusband hit the golf course and I did some laundry and book shelf organizing before heading into JCrew for a few hours. Now we're lounging on the couch laptop and magazines in hand breezing through the Golden Globes on DVR in record time (yes, we can do this because it was on at 5 here)!

All in all, not an exciting or really blog-worthy weekend, but it was great. I hope you're all enjoying your Sunday evening. 3 day weekend anyone?

Happy Birthday Maryann!!!

My BFF, Maryann turns 24 today!

Maryann and I have been close since third grade, and have shared so many wonderful memories together over the years. We danced, cheered, and played volleyball together while growing up which helped us grow closer. We were also lucky enough to live in the same neighborhood and have parents that were friends, so we even got to share some vacations together as kids (blue devil anyone?).

Growing up we were inseparable, until we parted ways to head to college. Maryann headed off to Miami of Ohio while I stayed in Indiana, and she is now living the big city life in Chicago! Unfortunately we don't get to see each other too much now, being 2000 miles apart and all, but we get together whenever we can. Over Christmas we were able to get together for lunch, and it was just like old times.

I hope you have a wonderful birthday Maryann! You're one of the best friends I could ask for, and I hope your 24th year is one of the best yet!

American Idol, Season 9

Now, I'm pretty sure that I was a little too excited for this week's season 9 premiere of American Idol! Even CAhusband looked over at me while watching and commented on my goofy grin and over-the-top enthusiasm. Luckily I was not disappointed. Simon made me laugh with his rude comments, there were some total wackos, and I noticed a few promising singers that I'll cheer on and hope they make it to the final 12.

Here are some of my thoughts on this week's auditions from Boston and Atlanta.

1. Victoria Beckham looked a little scary on day 1 in Boston. Love the dress, but she had on WAYYYY too much make-up. Her face was iridescent. CAhusband took serious issue with the headband, and I must say that I agree, it's a little odd; but she looked a million times better on Day 2! Victoria was way nice to all of the contestants though, which I appreciate. They all need a little encouragement because it takes guts to audition... even if they totally suck.

2. I'm still a little on the fence about Kara (although I usually agree with her), and it cracked me up that several of the contestants called her Paula! It totally pissed her off.

3. Every time I watch American Idol, I think I fall a little bit more in love with Ryan Seacrest. Yea, he's a little metro, but he's so nice to all of the contestants and doesn't dress like such a goof any more.

4. Pants On the Ground had me laughing so hard! What a funny 62 year-old with a great message, "looking like a fool with your pants on the ground". Something tells me he'll definitely be making an appearance in this season's finale.

5. The lady who thought she would be a shoe-in for Hollywood because she had mastered American Idol for Wii cracked me up. I mean, seriously? That was like me thinking I would be a good driver because I mastered a few of the easy tracks on Diddy Kong Racing for Nintendo 64 when I was in sixth grade. She was so pissed when she got 4 rejections, and seriously had no clue. It's so sad when people think that they're good when they're not. (BTW, has anyone played this game? We're looking to add to our Wii collection. Any good?)

6. Even though Simon is a total ass, he literally makes me laugh out loud with his comments. Although a little heartless, he tells it like it is. I'm so sad that he won't be on Idol next year, and am really afraid to see what it will do to the show's ratings. : (

What did you guys think of this season so far? As much as I'm looking forward to some of the guest judges they have lined up, I'm so excited for Ellen's debut at Hollywood Week in Feb.

Run (Don't WALK) to the Bookstore and Buy This Book!

Now normally I support the library as much as I can, but this book is so good that I recommend buying it. You'll want to share it and possibly read it again...it's that good!

Firefly Lane was given to me as a Christmas gift from my mom, who now declares that this book is one of her all-time favorites, and I must say I agree with her. Firefly Lane tells the story of two very different girls throughout their 3 decades of friendship, and is a page turner that had me finishing this nearly 500 pg. book in less than 4 days.

I really don't want to give anything away, just read this book and then let me know what you think. : )

3 books so far in 2010... I think this is one of my New Year's goals that I'm actually accomplishing!
