Fill in the Blank Friday

I love Fill in the Blank Friday over at The Little Things We Do!  Hop on over to her blog to check out all of the others who played along, and link up!  This week is all about the movies... ENJOY!

1. My absolute favorite movie of all time is Father of the Bride, without a doubt!  As a little girl, I watched that movie all the time, not only is it funny but sentimental too.  Even now when I see it on TV I stop and watch it!

2. My favorite movie as a child was ... hmm, I feel like I should say Little Mermaid or something, but in all reality I hated cartoons as a kid and didn't really like too many "kid movies" at all.  I only liked movies with "real people" in them, so I'd have to say The Sound of Music or Mary Poppins.

3. The best movie quote ever is from The Notebook, "They didn't agree on much, in fact, they rarely agreed on anything, they fought all the time and challenged each other everyday. But despite their differences they had one important thing in common... they were crazy about each other."   Ever since the first time I watched The Notebook, I've loved this quote the most.  Maybe it has something to do with CAhusband and I?  Ha!

4. My favorite actress is, I've said this before, but hands down, Julia Roberts!  Also, my favorite actor is probably Steve Martin, he's just so funny and I love everything he's in.

5. The movie I could watch over and over is .... too many to name, but I'll give you a few of my faves that I never get tired of watching:  Something's Gotta Give, The Hangover, Wedding Crashers, The Dark Knight, Christmas Vacation, and of course My Best Friend's Weddiing and Father of the Bride.

6. My favorite movie genre is romantic comedies.  There's something about a love story and laughs together that is the perfect combo for me.  I'm a typical girl, what can I say?
7. A movie I'd like to watch this weekend is Avatar.  Please God, let me finally see Avatar this weekend!   My friend Amy and I are going out for lunch and pedicures today, and also might try squeeze in The Back-Up Plan if we have time.  Yes, give me hell if you must... I told you I love rom coms!

The Perfect Dress..... found!

Ahh, I think I've found the perfect dress for our June wedding in Chicago... too bad it's more than I would ideally spend.  I love the first color, and the catalog image makes it look adorable (more so than the pic below), but I just saw the black and white too, which is very classic!

What do you think the odds are that this little baby will go on sale before June???  Hmm??

Myth: BUSTED

Did anyone elses husband make them watch the Pain Tolerance episode of Myth Busters last night?  Well, mine did....

The whole point was that they were trying to prove or dis-prove the "myth" that women have a higher pain tolerance than men do.  They tested the myth by having women and men place their hand in a bucket of near freezing water for as long as they thought tolerable.  The women won!  However, there were 2 things about their experiment that made CAhusband seriously question the validity of their results:

1. Women won.  CAhusband truly does not believe this is possible.
2. They made all contestants stop soaking their hand at the 3 minute mark (if they'd made it that long) for safety purposes.  CAhusband thought this was pretty ludicrous, and seriously doubted that after 3 minutes your hand would be in any danger.

So, what did CAhusband decided to do?

Yup, you guessed it, he broke out the bucket and some very icy water, and tested himself.  He simply had to prove that he was "tougher" than all of the men surveyed on the show, who were apparently wimps for allowing the women to beat them, AND prove that he could still have functioning digits by keeping his hand in the water past the 3 minute mark.

Of course, he did both.  Anything less would have been considered a failure on his part.

Lucky for me, his freezing cold hands prompted a series of Dumb and Dumber quotes about forgetting your gloves or something ridiculous.

It was an entertaining night to say the least....

An Amazing Weekend with Friends!

BEWARE:  This post is WAAAYYYY heavy on pictures.

I snapped a few photos this past weekend, but thank goodness Tracey was there with her awesome camera to capture it all!  Here are some pics from our amazing weekend with some amazing friends...

Friday during the day CAhusband had to work, so we did some shopping, dined on Mexican and daiquiris for lunch, and got in a few hours by the pool before he got home!

Friday night we headed to our favorite happy hour spot, and just so happened to run into one of our other favorite couples while we were there.  We were all able to eat together, and it was so fun for our friends to meet.  I had a feeling they'd like really get along, so I was really happy we bumped into each other.  After happy hour we met up with my parents for some more drinks in Old Town.

Amy, myself, and Tracey

Saturday we decided to head to Temecula to visit southern CA's wine country.  The drive itself is quite a treat, as we literally drove up and through mountains for almost 40 minutes straight!  It's pretty nerve-wracking driving, but the views are spectacular.  Luckily there's a look out point where we you can stop and snap some photos.
The view of the whole valley where we live.

The winding road we drove up.

 Tracey and Dylan

Once we got to Temecula we started off at Callaway winery.

 The vineyard at Callaway

Next, we traveled to Ponte winery for lunch, but were surprised to find a 2 hour and 45 minute wait!!!!  Unfortunately the whole place was packed, so we headed to our next stop.  We will definitely make a trip back to this beautiful spot!

Our third stop was Wilson Creek winery!  The tasting room was again swamped, so we decided to just buy a bottle of wine and a quick snack and sit outside while we waited for our table for lunch.  It was a gorgeous day so we just couldn't bear to stand inside when we could still enjoy some vino outside, and enjoy the scenery.

Our last stop of the day was Leonesse winery.  They had a gorgeous view, and again we decided to split a bottle outside instead on doing a tasting inside.  The scenery was spectacular, and made for some great pics!

Saturday night we relaxed at home by making my SIL's famous fondue and grilling out! We were slightly able to overhear Keith Urban at Stagecoach, which was kind of fun too.  We relaxed and caught up on some TV, and got to bed nice and early after a long and eventful day!

Sunday we woke up and hit the farmer's market for some people watching and Bellini's!  We met my parents at their favorite breakfast spot, and enjoyed showing Tracey and Dylan around our favorite little spot.  CAhusband also may or may not have bought  broken a wine glass at a little store while we browsed!  Needless to say, I was mortified!

 My mom, myself, Tracey

After the farmer's market we hit the pool for a few more hours of sun.  It was like 95, so we definitely worked on our tans and utilized the pool to keep cool.  Can you tell my nose got a little sun?  Yikes!  That night we went to dinner at my parents house.

Overall, it was a fantastic weekend!  Even though Tracey and Dylan live all the way in Ohio, I'm so thankful for their friendship and the fact that we've been able to stay close despite distance.  We can't wait to see them again in June... and July!!!

{Insert Clever Title Here}

We are just wrapping up a fabulous long weekend with our friends Tracey and Dylan, and I must admit, I'm so sad they're gone.  We had an amazing time, and we're so lucky to have 2 more opportunities to see them both this summer.  I'm going to wait to post about all of the fun things we did over the weekend though, because Tracey was the photographer, and her great photos will make it much more exciting!

Now, onto what's currently on my mind....

  • While browsing Facebook, I saw that my friend Molly has an adorable Lilly Pulitzer collar for her dog Lucy.  I've been trying to find cute matching collars for Piper and Reilly for awhile now, and I think these are just perfect.  Everyone calls the girls "him" and "he" all of the time just because they're boxers, and what better way to say "I'm a girl" than with Lilly.  Plus, the dog bone shaped buckle is too cute for words.

  • I am pretty sure that I'm over Idol for the rest of the year, and possibly forever.  For some reason I just can't get into it.  Last week I watched the entire performance episode in 10 minutes, by briefly watching about 10 seconds of each song, and then didn't even watch the Idol Gives Back elimination show.  Is anyone else completely over Idol?  Maybe it is the themes that are boring me?
  • Avatar is finally out on DVD, which means CAhusband and I will finally see it!  Yes, I know Blu-Ray is nowhere near as good as the 3D-IMAX.  We've heard.... many times, but I'm so excited to finally see it.
  • I tried making Funfetti cookies for the first time this evening, and I'm in love!  I knew I loved the cupcakes, but these cookies have opened up a whole new world to me.  In order to get them out of the house ASAP I've decided to take them to the kiddos at the after school program tomorrow.

Well, that's all that's on my mind this evening!  I hope you all had a great start to your week!

Getting to Know You!

While I'm the only one awake in our house this morning, I'm going to play along with Mann Land 5's Getting to Know You.  I love these little questions to help readers get to know me a little better, and love reading them too, so you should join in on the fun!

1. If you could star in any movie genre..what would it be..romance..horror..comedy..suspense or action?
I would definitely like to be in a romantic comedy.  Rom coms are my favorite by far!2. Do you recycle?
Yes, and no!  We don't have recycling pick up at our place, and I just don't put the energy into taking it ourselves, because 1.) we don't have the space to sort and store it, and 2.) I'm lazy.  I'm huge about recycling at school though, and definitely would do it at home too if we have recycling pick up at our apartment.  3. Have you ever been to a strip club?
Haha, have you met me?  Well, actually most of you haven't, so here's a tidbit about me, I'm the biggest prude you'll ever meet.  So, no, I haven't been to a strip club and likely never will!
4. Do you have a nickname?
Well, humm, not really!  My name is Peyton, and lots of people call me Peyt, but that's about it!5. What's a name you can't stand to be called?
I hate all pet-names for the most part, but CAhusband calls me babe, and I'm okay with that.  The main thing I hate is when people place emphasis on the wrong parts of my name and say it like PAY-TON instead of Peyton.  If you're around me a lot, you know that a lot of people do this!
6. What are your Summer staples?
A good cotton dress that I can wear casually or dressed up, a good book, J.Crew capri sandals, J-Crew v-neck tissue tees (I have at least 9), and AC!
7. What was the last thing you bought for yourself?
Yesterday I bought a jar of carmelized onion and fig jam at a winery we visited, because it will be perfect to help me re-create a pizza from one of our favorite resturants.
8. Are you happy with your boob size?
Hah, actually yes!  Small is good in my book, and I'm pretty sure I'd look ridiculous with huge boobs!

YAY for Visitors!

(Photo stolen from Tracey's facebook)

We're off to the airport to pick up these two crazy kids for their long weekend in the desert, and I couldn't be more excited!  Tracey and Dylan are here through Monday for some fun in the sun, so I won't likely be blogging, but I'm sure I'll have lots of pics and good times to share on Tuesday.

I'll Take One of Each Please!

Well, since J.Crew came out with their first round of Summer clothes today online, you know what you're in for... my most up-to-date J.Crew wishlist!

Doubt I'll really buy this one, unless it's super cute IRL, but I think it would look adorable with white denim!

I love the fabric that this shell comes in, and have similar shirts from seasons past.  It's a sturdy cotton, almost like a button up blouse, and I think this color is so pretty!  Again, how cute would this look with white denim?

Now, I can't tell if I think this fabric is really pretty, or a hot mess.  We'll just have to see what it looks like in person.  Doubt I'll buy this one either, but at this point I can't wait to see it IRL.

I can't figure out why I like this tunic, maybe it's the color and the neckline?  I think it would be great with my denim cut-off shorts and brown gladiators for a relaxing day, while still looking cute.

We have this same draped style in a skirt and pants at my J.Crew, and I have loved them both!  Now that they're available in a short, I'm even more in love.  In all reality, these will be way too short to be socially acceptable in my book, but who knows, maybe not?  If we get these in, I'll definitely try them on just to see how they work.

(for some reasons I can't find the bottoms, it's like they aren't available to buy?)
I love this new style of swimsuit they have released.  It's available in lots of solids, and several prints as well.  I think that the style of the top will be flattering on me, but I'm stumped on which pattern I like the best?  What do you think, the paisley or the aqua polka dots?

Now, honestly, is this super cute, or super ugly?  I truthfully cannot decide.  This could be used for my SIL's rehearsal dinner, or a beach wedding we have, but I really can't decide if I love it or hate it?!!?  Help!
I think I would wear with without a belt, and with heels instead of sandals.

What are your favorites?  Will you shop J.Crew's new arrivals?

What I've Been Up To!

It's another busy week here for CAwife!  There has been a lot happening on the job front, so I've been busy revamping my portfolio and such; and we're preparing for our friends Tracey and Dylan to arrive on Thursday night for a fun filled long weekend! Although I feel like I've got a lot going on right now, busy is good!

Here's a little bit of what I've been up to:

Friday night, I stopped and picked up this little dress on my way home from work.  It's just too perfect for work to pass up.  Of course, I used a 15% off teacher discount, but I really wish they would have given me a heads up in the store that 30% off Friends and Family was just around the corner!  Oh well!

Saturday morning I re-potted our poppies that had completely dried up in the heat, with these bright and summery flowers! I love how they look, but now just have to try to keep them alive. We're already experiencing 90 degree temps, so watering these buds will need to be done at least twice a day!
Don't they look so pretty in the orange pots?  They're actually a set of 3 across our patio wall, and I think they do a ton to add some color to the place!

Sunday afternoon I convinced CAhusband to watch Disc 1 of GLEE with me, and we both loved it!  I had a strong feeling that this show would be right up my alley, but I had no clue how much I'd truly enjoy it.  Discs 2 and 3 are currently on their way, and I can't wait to catch up to the new episodes that I'm saving on the DVR.  I'm so happy that CAhusband actually liked this show too. I mean, he definitely thinks it's a little lame, but he thinks it's funny too!

Last night I finally caved and snatched up this little dress during the last hours of 25% off and free shipping for Land's End Canvas!  Again, this dress will be perfect for school, and I'd been eyeing it since LEC's debut a few months ago.  I can't wait to get it and try it on. I was a little unsure on the sizing though, so hopefully it will work out; if not, it's going back.

Well I think that's all that's been going on for us here lately!  I hope you're all having a great Tuesday!

We've Been Married 9 Months!

Last weekend at the Colbie Caillat Concert

Once again, I'm shocked that another month has come and gone.  In some ways the wedding seems like yesterday, but in others I feel like we've come so far it can't have possibly been 9 whole months ago!

This 9th month of marriage has been extremely relaxing and wonderful.  We've spent lots of time with my parents and our new friends, and have enjoyed lots of little date nights just the two of us.

At this point we're very set in our ways, and marriage doesn't seem like an adjustment at all anymore.  The only real change that I've noticed in the last month has been that we have grown so much more comfortable with where we live.  Adjusting to a new town takes some time, but I now no longer feel the need to say "we just moved here" to everyone I meet!

Life is good for CAwife and CAhusband, and we both can't wait to see what the rest of our first year of marriage with entail!

Beaver?

On our way home from dinner at the wine bar Friday night, while trying to find a good song on the radio the following conversation took place...

Me: Ooo, stop here! I like this song!

CAhusband: Oh yeah, you like the beaver?

Me: Beaver???

CAhusband: Yeah, Beaver!

Me: Ohhhhh, Beaver.  I think you mean Bieber, his name is Justin Bieber. (laughing hysterically at this point)

CAhusband: Are you sure, I would have sworn his last name was Beaver.

Me: Haha, yeah, I'm PRETTY sure the most popular tween star isn't named Beaver.

Oh Lord!  Pop culture savvy, CAhusband is not!  And yes, while we're on the topic, I DO like Justin Bieber!

Things That Are Making Me Smile

It's almost the weekend and it's a beautiful day!  Here are some of the things that are making me smile...

The house in Big Bear that we're renting for the Fourth of July!
Yesterday the plans came through for a weekend trip up to Big Bear in the mountains for the Fourth of July!  We will be joining 5 other young couples from CAhusband's office, and it will be a blast.  By that time it will be amazing to escape to higher altitudes and cooler temps... I can't wait!

I love this cute little teacher dress.
This would be perfect to wear to school, plus Loft has 15% off teacher discounts.

I've admired these bowls for awhile, and am glad I held off on buying them before because these colors for spring are right up my alley.  Although my husband would beg to differ, we actually need these.  We have large mixing bowls, but we don't have a set with varying sizes.  I definitely think I'll snag these on my next trip to C & B!

(photo from Martha Stewart Weddings)
Wedding Season
Now, our first wedding isn't until June, but the shower invites and invitations are pouring in, and I couldn't be more excited!  I also can't wait to see all of the spring/summer wedding pics on my favorite photography blogs!

I'm in love with the cute striped cardigan in both colors.  Unfortunately, it's too hot to wear now, so a $130 cardi is out of the question, but it's so pretty.  I guess I'll just have to admire it from my online shopping cart!

I'd love to hear what's making you smile this weekend!  Happy Friday everyone!
