Reasons tonight's GLEE episode involving Britney Spears made my day:

Emma referred to Will's Toxic outfit as something from Kids Incorporated...
I absolutely loved this show and had forgotten all about it!

Britney's character looked an awful lot like the real Britney during several of her numbers,
and boy can that girl dance!  It was obvious she's the only GLEE character with serious dance moves!

Sue's comment that Will wears more vests than the cast of Blossom,
I think I almost died laughing!

Uncle Jesse's appearance as Emma's new boyfriend...
does anyone know if this role will last beyond a few episodes?

The superb choice of Britney music...I now have a desire to download all of my favorites because I have no idea where my old CD's are!

Did you love this week's GLEE?  I think this show is definitely in my Top 2 favorites this fall, and that's saying a lot for someone who watches as much TV as I do!

Quick Update

Ahh, it was one of those days, and it's official I despise Mondays.

Here are some things to catch you up on what we've been up to:

-Those of you who were concerned about all of the TV I watch will be happy to know, I've pared it down some!  My Generation and Outsourced were both major flops and will not be recorded again.  Also, as much as I liked Lonestar it just made me too nervous to watch him conning everyone.  It was only the first episode and it was already making me anxious, so I think I'll pass (I mean it's not like I'm hurting for entertainment).

-We are going to Vegas on Friday to meet CAhusband's brother, and his wife, VAbelle!  They're going to be there for a wedding, and since it's so close we're using the excuse to go see them, then they're driving back to the desert with us to visit for a few days!  I'm so excited to see them and show them around our area.  Also, it just occurred to me that I haven't made dinner reservations for Sat. night yet... any suggestions for a yummy dinner on the strip?

-After searching for months we have finally found a house to rent!  We move in less than 2 weeks, and I cannot wait to have a 2-car garage, a master bath with 2 sinks, a pool, and tons of storage space.  I'm so over life in an apartment with 2 dogs, so this move is HIGHLY anticipated!  Lots more on the house as we get settled, but I'm so excited to say that our search is over!

-I started The Hunger Games last night, and although I only got through the first chapter before falling asleep I'm definitely starting to see what all the hype is about!  I can't wait to read some more before dozing off tonight.

That's all for now!  Have a good night everyone!

Here are my outfits from the past week!  Still very much a spring/summer wardrobe, although Wednesday we got down to 90 degrees for a high, woohoo!  Unfortunately it was back at 110 by Friday, and is expected to be above normal through the next week.  I'm hoping after next week it will cool off enough to start transitioning in a few fall pieces, but again I remind you, I had to wear shorts on Thanksgiving last year so sweaters and corduroys are out of the question.

Paisley Dress with Gold Sequin Detail, Ann Taylor Loft (Spring 2010)
This is a teacher dress all the way, but is so comfortable, and requires no thought...
it will get lots of use!

Orange-ish Ruffle Top, J.Crew (Spring 2010)
Olive Green Bermuda Shorts, J.Crew (Spring 2010)
Please excuse the already wrinkled shorts at 6am.  Piper got off her leash on her walk and I was lucky enough to get to chase her around the apartment complex for 15 minutes.

Chiffon Trim Pocket Sheath, Ann Taylor Loft (Fall 2010)
Tory Burch Revas
This dress looks kind of bleh in this picture, but I am in love with the chiffon ruffle pockets.
I will wear this dress a ton, and what do you know, it just went on sale!
Floral Tank, Anthropologie (Spring 09)
Denim Skirt, Ann Taylor Loft (Spring 2010)
This skirt gets LOTS of wear at school, as it goes with everything.  This is a MAJOR teacher skirt however, and NEVER gets to make an appearance in my real life wardrobe!
Also, any Dexter fans recognize this shirt from Rita in season 4?  I love when something I own gets a TV appearance, it somehow validates that it's cute! : )
Black V-neck T-shirt, Banana Republic (circa 2008)
Black Metallic Bermuda Shorts, Ann Taylor Loft (Spring 2010)
Headband, J.Crew (Spring 2010)
Shorts with a metallic thread are a HUGE hit with 2nd graders... boy did they LOVE these shorts!  They also really liked my headband!

I hope you all have a great week!

Recipe: Pasta with Sausage, Basil, and Mustard

I've had this recipe saved in my file forever, and am so mad at myself for not making it for the first time until last night.

Pasta with Sausage, Basil, and Mustard from Food and Wine Magazine:

1 pound penne or medium shells

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
8 hot Italian sausages (we used ground sausage, about 1 1/2 pounds)
3/4 cup dry white wine
3/4 cup heavy cream
3 tablespoons grainy mustard
Pinch of crushed red pepper
1 cup thinly sliced basil
  • Cook the pasta in a large pot of boiling salted water until al dente; drain.
  • Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a large, deep skillet. Add the sausage meat and brown over moderately high heat, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the wine and simmer, scraping up the browned bits from the bottom, until reduced by half, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the cream, mustard and crushed red pepper and simmer for 2 minutes. Remove the skillet from the heat, add the pasta and basil and toss to coat.
  • Serve at once.
CAhusband and I both adored this dish!  It will definitely be part of our meal rotation this fall/winter!

DVR Overload: Fall TV

Some notes on Fall TV:

-This week is sort of like Christmas for a TV addict.  I am beyond excited, I have my list of shows all typed in a word document to avoid confusion, and my DVR has been set for weeks... yes, I'm CAwife and I'm an addict, a TV addict.

-I must really be hurting for blogging material because this post makes me look so bad!  Sadly the fact that I watch 20+ hours of TV a week is not something I want to change, I love TV and it's the perfect way to relax at the end of a long day.

-Thank God for DVR because I honestly don't know what I'd do without it.  Sadly, my DVR works overtime many nights, and I'm only able to squeeze in all of the shows that I do because many of them are OnDemand and don't need to be recorded.

-Keep in mind this schedule doesn't count my BRAVO shows.  I'm leaving them off because it would only make this schedule look worse, and they're on at 6 and 7 p.m. here, so they don't interfere with the other primetime shows.

Here's what I plan to watch:

Desperate Housewives (ABC)
Brothers and Sisters (ABC)
Dexter (Showtime)

Weeds (Showtime)
The Big C (Showtime)
90210 (CW)
Gossip Girl (CW)
House (FOX)
Lonestar (FOX): new show, going to give it a try!
Castle (ABC)

The Good Wife (CBS)
Parenthood (NBC)

Modern Family (ABC)

My Generation (ABC) new show, going to give it a try!
Grey's Anatomy (ABC)
Private Practice (ABC)
The Big Bang Theory (CBS)
30 Rock (NBC)
The Office (NBC)
Outsourced (NBC) new show, going to give it a try!

If you haven't made your schedule yet, shame on you... here's a link to help you out: TV Guide's Premiere Guide
So, now that you've all judged me, tell me:
How much did I just embarrass myself? What are you watching this fall?

OOTW: Hot and Tired

You'd think I would put a little more effort into my outfits given that I'm now posting them on the interwebs... wrong!  It was so hot this past week (105+), and I am still exhausted from getting back into the swing of things again, so these outfits were pretty simple and required next to no thought!  Again, these outfits are very spring/summer... heat, DUH!

J.Crew Coral and Grey Printed Tunic (Spring 2010)
J.Crew Grey Bermuda Shorts (Spring 2010)

Tuesday (recess duty = coolest outfit I own)
Lands End Canvas Pleated Dress (Summer 2010)
Turquoise Necklace (Target circa 2006)
Wednesday (Chapel)
J.Crew Striped Blakely Dress (Spring 2010)
J.Crew teardrop necklace (Spring 2010)
GAP V-Neck Cardigan (Only worn for chapel, I've had this since HS)

Thursday (super boring, super comfortable)
Ann Taylor Loft Drapey Top (Spring 2010)
J.Crew Skimmer Pants (Spring 2010)

Friday (ultra casual)
Anthropologie Printed Flutter Sleeve Top (Fall 2009)
J.Crew Olive Green Bermuda Shorts (Spring 2010)

Is it Friday yet?

Whoa, I did not intend to be MIA in the blog world this week, but what can I say... kids are exhausting and all I want to do is watch TV when I get home!  Once again, I'm leaving you with some ramblings...
-I recently saw this adorable craft project on 2 blogs, Spearmint Baby and Frugal Life Project.  I am in love with this idea, and definitely want to make one for myself and my fellow teacher friends ASAP.  Isn't this the cutest idea ever?  I think an S made of crayons would be the perfect addition to my desk!

-My poor husband has been living on spaghetti, mac and cheese, and frozen margherita pizza since school started.  I feel so bad, but have absolutely no motivation to make dinner when I get home from school.  I'm sticking with my current menu through the week, but am forcing myself to make real food again next week.  Feel free to send any easy and delicious recipes my way!

-Almost all of my TV's shows start again this coming week and I am giddy with excitement.  I love TV way too much, it's almost embarrassing.

-We went and looked at a house last night that has a HUGE yard.  It's way too much house for us, but is new, would be ideal for the girls, and is close to friends.  The owner really likes us, but I think we're both afraid to sign the lease.  Moving is such a pain, and I think we're both afraid that something better will come along as soon as we commit.  Yes, we're just renting, but somehow we're still really stressed.  This whole process has confirmed my fears that CAhusband and I will never agree on a house when it comes to buying.

-Although it's been well over 105 degrees here all week, I'm busting out my fall decor this weekend.  Pumpkin candles will soon be burning in every room and I can't wait. Is it too soon to justify having a Halloween candy bowl?

-I want this JCrew sweater so badly I have dreams about it.  It's so beautiful in person, and I can't wait to buy it!  The only problem is when to wear it???  It would likely have to wait until  our Thanksgiving visit to Indiana and I'm not sure I want to neglect it that long.

-Speaking of shopping... I got my first big-girl paycheck again yesterday!  Although we're just talking private school teacher paycheck, it still feels good after a year of working hourly jobs (J.Crew, subbing, nannying).  Unfortunately this means I get to start covering some bills again.... boo!
I'm planning to be back in full force again next week.. have a great weekend everyone!

Blogger Bookclub: CeeCee Wilkes Ch. 51-71

Today the blogger bookclub Book Beginnings and Bookends wraps up their first book, The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes.  I've really enjoyed participating, and absolutely loved the book  If you're looking for a quick, easy read, I highly recommend it.

1. At the end we find out Tim was sending Cory money because he thought she could be his daughter since he was having an affair with Genevieve. Did you see this coming?
Whoa... no way!  I was completely surprised to hear this.  Once Tim told Eve about his relationship with Genevieve all kinds of little details started to fall into place for me.  I really liked the unexpected twist it added to the story.

2. By the end of the story, what were your feelings about Eve? How had they changed since the beginning?
Rather than constantly doubting her and all of her choices like I did in the beginning, in the end I more fully support her.  I was so frustrated with her in the beginning, but in the end I was just so relieved that she turned herself in and that it ended as well as it did.  I was so happy to not be mad at her anymore.

3. Were you happy with the way President Russel treated Cory?
I wasn't happy with it, but I completely understood it.  We knew Eve's side of the story, so it was easy to represent her side.  President Russel only had his side, and his family was taken from him.  He lost his wife and missed his daughter's entire childhood.  As much as we want him to forgive, I think that would be a pretty hard thing to do if you were in his situation.

4. If you were in Cory's shoes and had just found out all of this about the woman who raised you and who you believed to be your mother, how would you react? Would you forgive?
I would be devastated (as I'm sure everyone would).  Although I believe very strongly in forgiveness, this is never something I've been very good at.  I think it would take me a long time in therapy to be able to forgive Eve if I were in Cory's shoes.  I know I wouldn't be able to forgive her as quickly as Cory did.

5. In your mind, how does this story end? Do they all live happily ever after? Does Cory go on having relationships with her old family and her new family?
In my mind all book characters live happily ever after.. so yes, Cory will split her family time with both sides and they'll all support her forever and ever! : )

6. How do you think Cory has changed throughout the story? Have your feelings about her changed?
I finally like Cory again in the end!  I was so happy when she left Ken, and really loved how she ended up standing by Eve through the trial.  I think she comes a LONG way in this last section, and I think her character is much more likable.

OOTW: Back to School Clothes

I've decided I'm going to try doing a weekly OOTD (Outfit of the Day) post.  I don't have the energy to start up another blog to do it, and know I won't get around to individual posts, so my new goal is to post the outfits from the previous week each Monday.  This will mainly be "teacher clothes" but may include other outfits too.  Who knows if this will work out, but I enjoy other OOTD bloggers (I Take Photos in the Bathroom, Chloe Conspiracy, etc.), so I thought I would give it a try.

WARNING: My current picture taking location requires me to stand on the toilet in our guest bathroom and take a picture in the mirror with mass amounts of  'hang to dry' clothes on the shower curtain rod behind me.  I'm working on improving the set-up, but in the meantime here are my first week back to school's outfits.

PLEASE NOTE: The weather here is extremely warm still.  I will wear summer outfits through the end of September and beyond, seasonal outfits don't really apply here.  We rarely have weather that doesn't fit into the category of what most would consider spring or summer... so my wardrobe definitely reflects that.

Wednesday, First Day of School:
Pleated Neck Sheath Dress from Ann Taylor Loft

Black V-neck T-shirt, Banana Republic (circa 2008)
Pink Quilted Skirt, Ann Taylor Loft (Spring 2010)
Beaded Necklaces, J. Crew (Summer 2010)
Black Leather Peep Toe Flats, Anthropologie (Spring 2009)

Friday (Casual, Jeans):
Striped Sequin Tee, Gap (Fall 2010)
White Matchstick Denim, J. Crew (Summer 2010)

Let me know if this is a weekly post you'll actually be interested in reading!
I hope you all have a fantastic Monday!

Odds and Ends

I have made it through the first 2 days of school with my sanity intact, YAY!  I'm absolutely exhausted, but I have some adorable (and very funny) 2nd graders, and think it's going to be a great year.  Here are some random thoughts to get you through 'til my next cohesive post...

-CAhusband and I have been on a HUGE Dexter kick lately, and managed to finish all of the released seasons (1-4) in less than a month!  Last night we finished season 4, and HOLY COW!!!!!  I can't believe how it ended, and am sooo bummed.  Thank goodness we have Showtime, I can't wait for Season 5 to start soon!

-I'm reading The BFG by Roald Dahl as my after lunch read-aloud to my class.  I haven't read this book in years, and the kids absolutely love it.  I'm really enjoying hearing the story all over again.

-This past weekend I made a list of all the fall TV shows I want to watch with the premiere dates, channel, and time.  Yes, I'm a loser, but the possibility of missing one of my favorite premieres was causing anxiety.  I'm going to have to skip The Biggest Loser and Dancing with the Stars (I think the line-up sucks anyway)this year, I simply don't have the time or DVR capacity to squeeze them in.

-Rachel Zoe's saying for this season, "Shut the Front Door" is my absolute fave.  I've been saying it a lot at home, and CAhusband is not amused.  He DESPISES Rachel Zoe (and all things BRAVO).

-I have been living on Sargento reduced fat sharp cheddar cheese sticks and Diet Mountain Dew this week... I'm hoping to resume normal eating habits (as if I've ever really had those) by the third week of school.

It's almost Friday, so I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!  I'll be back Monday!

Loft Love

I'm in love with Loft's fall line, and can't wait to scoop up some of these beautiful sweaters and dresses!  Unfortunately our Loft has NONE of these items because rumor has it their entire new shipment burned up in a truck.... so I'll just admire them from my online shopping cart for now!

Do you love Loft's new fall items?  What do you want to scoop up?
