Some Questions for You

I've been pondering a few questions lately, and I figure who else it better to ask than all of my wonderful readers.  You haven't led me in the wrong direction before, so why not?

Here are some random questions I have for you, I'd love to hear your opinion if you've got one...

1. We've watched seasons 1 and 2 of True Blood, but I heard season 3 gets even weirder (if that's possible).  We were planning on Netflixing Season 3, and then getting HBO for the summer to watch Season 4.  Is season 3 worth watching, or is it just too weird?  What did you think?

2. Sticking with the True Blood theme (I swear I'm not obsessed with vampires), have you read the Sookie Stackhouse series?  I'm looking for a good series to get me through the summer, and have heard good things about it, but I'm just not sure.  Should I read them?

3. Do any of you have black wood furniture?  Our bedroom suite is all black painted wood, and all of the dusting products I've tried leave bad smears that take days to go away.  Anyone have any tricks for keeping black furniture dust-free a little longer?  (I should have known better than to buy this furniture.  I love it, but the dust factor is making me CRAZY).

4. Did you see The Hangover 2?  Originally, we couldn't wait to see it, but given all of the luke-warm reviews, I can't decide.  Should we go see it in the theater or wait for it to come out on DVD?

5.  All of you SoCal girls and frequent CA travelers... which beach is the best to visit for a long weekend?  We're thinking Orange County or Los Angeles beaches, not San Diego.  Feel free to send hotel and restaurant recs as well.  We're trying to plan a beach weekend, but I'm not super familiar with the areas and would rather base it off a personal recommendation that a review online.

I'd love to hear what you think, so please share your opinions!

Thanks!

Definitely watch True Blood Season 3! It's weirder but it's soooo good! Same goes for the books, they're super easy to read, very very quick, but if you like the series you'll enjoy the books too!

Hangover 2 was really funny. I liked Bridesmaids better but it's still worth seeing. For your black furniture make sure it's not a wax based product. That may be your culprit.

my husband and i just spent a weekend at the embassy suites mandalay beach resort in oxnard (north of malibu) and it was really nice, quiet and relaxing. the resort is a little older but the fact that it's literally right on top of the beach makes up for it. oxnard's downtown area is tiny so we went a little further north for shopping in nearby ventura and then to the cabrillo outlets. there's lot's of great dining options in ventura. there are also whale watching and harbor cruise options nearby. if you're up for going even further north, santa barbara is always amazing.

I've never seen True Blood but I am a HUGE Sookie Stackhouse fan. I love loved the books and I insisted in investing in my own copies of each of the books because it's that good - in my opinion. LOVED them. Definitely read them.

I could recommend a beach but the only ones I know in CA are San Diego. So I'm zero help there.

Personally True Blood got way too weird for us. We were trying to cut costs and cancelled our HBO and I honestly have not missed it. I heard the Sookie books were good.

1) I Don't watch True Blue (but I do love Netflix;)

2) I don't read the Sookie books.

3) We have plenty of black wood furniture pieces and it's very difficult to dust, especially living in the desert of SoCal (it's almost pointless to dust). I actually tried Pledge's all purpose cleaner and I really liked it, not much of a residue after. But I'd still have to dust everyday.

4) I want to see the Hangover 2. But I will definitely be waiting to watch it at home. I refuse to see comedies at our movie theater.

5) I live in SoCal and love going to the beach! We LOVE going to Windandsea Beach in La Jolla and staying at the beautiful US Grant Hotel(I know, that's near San Diego) but it's the most beautiful beach scene! We also go to Crystal Cove, Bolsa Chica state beach, and Ventura beaches are always pretty nice.

HAHA I meant True BLOOD!

We have dark brown furniture. I usually use a Swiffer duster, but it's pretty pointless because it's covered in dust 5 seconds later. One time I bought some spray dusting stuff, and it left weird marks on the furniture (especially if I used it, then placed a coaster or placemat down....there would be a color difference, ya know?).

1) I thought both season 2 and 3 were really weird but watched anyway. If you liked season 2, you'd probably like season 3. I thought season 2 was stranger.

2) I read the first Sookie Stackhouse book and didn't really like it. I never picked up another in the series. But I know many people like them, so I may be the odd one out on this.

3) I use a Swiffer Duster on my dining room table, which is painted black wood. I have to dust often to keep up, but it works and doesn't streak.

4) I saw The Hangover 2 and thought it was hilarious. It's definitely the same story as the first movie but I still liked it. I think it is worth seeing.

We have black wood furniture in our bedroom and love it! We bought the dusting spray and rags that they suggested and it works great, no streaks! Sorry you're having trouble with yours!

I saw the hangover 2 and loved it! If you liked the first movie, you'll like this one too! I mean you kinda already know how the movie is going to go, but the jokes are different and its definitely worth seeing!

For a beach vacation = HANDS DOWN ORANGE COUNTY!! It's my favorite place in CA. Take a look at my blog to read about my stay in Newport Beach last month.
I'm going to make a post especially for you on my blog (you have officially inspired me!) about all my suggestions for OC.
Hope this helps and keep us all posted on where you decide to go. :)

I love your blog and my favorite place to stay is the Sea Sprite http://www.seaspritemotel.com/ it is nothing fancy AT ALL but it is right on the beach with plenty of nightlife around and is just very cool but not luxury for sure!

Luxury I LOVE the Hyatt Huntington Beach it is beautiful and I love Huntington and it is close to newport and tons to do.

In general I feel like True Blood take the sweird/ trashy thing to a whole other level... but I still really like it :) The books, are always better to me though.

I read them first and can normally speed through one in a bout a day - not the best writing but again weird/fun/ trashy... perfect for the summer!

Also - I have black wood furniture and I feel like the dust never ends. I normally am just ocd about wiping it down before guests come but no secret tricks here.

If you don't want to do San Diego, I recommend doing Orange County, Laguna Beach. SO gorgeous. Also Hermosa Beach/Manhattan Beach in LA is great too, bu the hotels around HB/MB are not as nice as in OC.

I have the same problems with our dark wood furniture. I find cleaning it with my castile soap formula that I talk about here: http://www.newlywedsnextdoor.com/2011/01/green-cleaning-tips.html works pretty well.

I grew up in Huntington Beach and while I would certainly recommend a weekend stay there, I'd have to say that my favorite OC beach city is Laguna Beach. Lots of fun shopping, dining, and beachy lounging. I bet you'd like it! :)

I live in LA but am from OC and I would say definitely go with Orange County over LA beaches any day of the week! I would say stay in Laguna if you can - the beaches are beautiful, and there is great shopping and restaurants there also. The Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel is my absolute favorite hotel (you won't want to leave the hotel - beach access, etc) or if you want to be in Laguna Beach and walking distance to a bunch of stuff, I would say Surf and Sand. If you want more recommendations or have questions, I don't have a blog, but you can DM me on twitter @_ssh. Enjoy!

Avoid leaving your beach cruiser out in the rain or outside overnight if dew is a possibility for the next morning.
