3 Fun Nights of Fashion

Last week I was lucky enough to snag a seat at some fantastic fashion shows with some fabulous people!  It was Fashion Week at El Paseo in Palm Desert, and we went to 3 different shows. It was so much fun to people watch from our fantastic second row seats, see some great shows, and have several nights out with the girls!

Here are some highlights...

Wednesday night was the Project Runway Show
featuring Michael Costello, Mondo Guerra, and Christopher Collins from the Season 8
My mom and I before the show
1. Christopher Collins   2. Mondo Guerra    3. Michael Costello
All of the designers stayed pretty true to the styles they portrayed on the show, although I found myself loving Michael Costello's all black collection even though I didn't really care for him much last season.

I even spotted Vicki and Lynne from RHOC in the audience! Sadly, I was a little too excited by this somewhat of a celebrity sighting and my photos are a huge blur!

Thursday night was the FIDM Debut
showcasing the collections of this year's most promising graduates

Snapping a pic with the piano man at Firecliff before the show

Ruthie and I before the show

These were 2 of my favorite collections shown at the FIDM show.
The 1930's inspired little boys collection was so cute, the little guys were adorable!

Friday night was the Trina Turk Palm Springs Eternal Show
This whole collection was so pretty, colorful, and very Palm Springs!

Ruthie and I after the show

These were 2 of my favorite looks from the show... so pretty!

A big thanks to Gail and Ruthie (Spice of Life as a Wife) for sharing including me last week.  I had a fabulous time, and can't wait to have more mother/daughter nights together soon!

Five Friday Faves

Here are 5 of my current favorite things...

Relaxed Tailoring Cropped Pants from Ann Taylor Loft
I needed new work pants for the warmer weather, and snagged these pants at Loft last weekend.
I absolutely love them and know that I will get tons of use out of them!  They're very comfortable, and I've gotten tons of compliments on them already.

A Little Bit Stronger by Sara Evans
One of the spin instructors plays this for our cool down song, and I'm obsessed with it!  Another perk is that it's from one of my favorite movies, Country Strong.  I've been playing this song on repeat for a good week now!

New Hot Rollers
My love for the new hot rollers I recently purchased deserves a whole post in itself really...
this is the best $25 I've spent in a long time!  My hair is frizzy yet flat, and they smooth out my hair and give it so much body at the same time.  Love them!
J. Crew New Arrivals
I've been off of the J.Crew bandwagon ever since I stopped working there this fall.  Their winter stuff was so blah to me, but I'm in love all over again with their new arrivals that were unveiled online this week.  Such pretty pale shades, and stuff that can fit for both work and play... I can't wait to try some of it on.

Tournament Time
I've never filled out a bracket before this year and am so glad I did!  If your husband is going to insist on hours of tournament watching, it's a lot more enjoyable to make a game out of it.  My bracket is currently killing CAhusbands.... his Big 10 loyalty definitely isn't working out for him this year!

Feel free to snag the image at the top and play along!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

A Mid-Week Weekend

First, I would just like to say thank you to all of my wonderful readers.  I didn't expect all of your incredibly sweet comments and emails about my job uncertainty, and I can't tell you how much better you all made me feel.  You all had such great points, and helped me feel much more at ease with everything!

I took yesterday and today off of work, and it is by far the best decision I've made in along time.  After last week, it was wonderful to take a break and de-stress.  Despite the fact that CAhusband has been up at the crack of dawn both days, thus waking me and the dogs up too, these last 2 days have been heaven.

It's amazing how much you can get done on a weekday when you're not working.  The weekends go so fast, and I try to spend as much time with CAhusband as possible, so we don't get quite as much accomplished as I would necessarily like to.  It's been great to get a lot done,  have some fun, and just relax and hang with my pups.

Some of the highlights have been...
  • Laying by the pool, getting a tan, and finally finishing Water for Elephants
  • Enjoying the Project Runway show at Palm Desert Fashion Week (more on this later)
  • Cleaning out my DVR
  • Getting some organizing done around the house
  • Hitting the gym mid-day (it's always packed at night, it's so much more peaceful going in the morning)
  • Doing some much needed deep cleaning
In other news, I'm extremely excited about The Office proposal tonight!  Will you be watching?

The Uncertainty Begins... again

I don't quite know how to start this post to truly convey how I really feel, so I'm just going to state the facts first.

Last Wednesday the entire staff at the private school where I teach was notified that our school would not re-open for the 2011-2012 school year.  Although we knew the financial side of things at school were starting to slip, we were all shocked.  We were fairly certain they would give us at least one more year to try to rebound before making such a big decision; unfortunately they no longer felt that they could.

I was instantly upset for the children and families who love our school, and then I started to think of the staff.  We are a staff of teachers who considered ourselves extremely lucky to have teaching jobs in this economy, and in California where record numbers of teachers are being laid off each year.  Now we are joining the masses of unemployed teachers.  Being in a private school we considered ourselves to be safe from lay-offs.... boy were we wrong.

I am now extremely frustrated with a lot of things, but my decision to be a teacher in general is the one that is constantly plaguing me.  Not that I don't love being a teacher, but I don't think I would have ever allowed myself to chose this career if I'd known how incredibly hard it would be to have a job.  Next year will likely mark the 2nd year out of 4 that I've been out of school that I won't have a teaching job.

Although I know I will be able find something to keep me occupied next year, it is still extremely hard to put so much time into a career, and constantly feel defeated by it.

I know that I lot of other people are in the same boat, not just teachers.  I know I need to stop throwing myself a pity party, and look at the positives in this situation, but now I'm just mad.

Now I am constantly thinking about what I should do now.
  • Should I take this as a sign and try to go back to school for something more steady and needed in this economy ?  I'm only 25, it's definitely not too late, but it's not like there's really anything that guarantees a good job these days...
  • Should I weather the storm, and hope that eventually the education system in the country will sort itself out and sub in the mean time?
  • Should I try to convince CAhusband to look for a job somewhere else so that I have a better opportunity at finding a job?  Surely it isn't this hard everywhere in the country.... nevermind, it probably is.
I'm one of those people that would truly like to know what my next 5 years looks like... 100% !  I hate surprise, and I hate not knowing; however, I've accepted the surprise of everything is what makes life so great.  Unfortunately, this loss of a job only makes me dwell on the uncertainty of everything even more.

I think I've rambled enough, so I'm going to leave it at that for now.  Sorry for the Debbie Down post, I just have WAY too many thoughts in my head about this right now, and thought it might help to get them all down.

I hope you're all having a great week!

For Japan with Love

I love the idea of taking a break from my typical blogging today to honor those in Japan.

I'll return next week with Five Friday Faves... it just seems a little superficial today when much more important things are going on.

I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend!

Disappointment After the Final Rose

I was doing so good at avoiding Reality Steve and all other blog spoilers for The Bachelor finale.  Sure, I'd heard rumors, but I chose to ignore them all and be surprised.

I even swore off of Twitter last night, because I knew the east coasters would be discussing who Brad chose.  However, right as I begin to play the finale last night I was so incredibly bummed to stumble across a non-gossip/Bachelor related blog announcing Emily as the winner.

DAMN! I was so mad at myself, but I still watched.
The Bachelor itself was okay and pretty predictable (especially since I knew the ending). I enjoyed watching the Brad's family meeting both of the girls, and Emily's final date made me cringe. It was the After the Final Rose where things really got interesting though!

Here are my overall thoughts on last night:
*Emily's dress was really surprising to me. I would have never picked this for her
and thought it aged her a lot.
*That spiral curl down Chantal's face was making me CRAZY, and I hated that her hanger strap thingy was hanging out. I absolutely loved her earrings though!
*Even though I didn't like Chantal, it was so hard to see Brad send her home. Poor thing really thought she was going to be chosen, then she had that trans-continental flight home from South Africa.
It was painful to watch!
*Emily's hair looked awesome in the After the Final Rose special. Loved the low-lights on her!
*Did Emily really think Brad would refuse the fantasy suite with the other girls?  Has she ever seen The Bachelor before? I know it must have been hard for her to watch, but come on, she needs to be realistic about the experience she signed up for.

*I haven't read any of the gossip blogs and Brad about where Emily currently stand in their relationship, but the tension on that couch last night was really awkward to watch. If I had to guess I'd say they tried to fake it for the show, but that they are definitely over in real life.
*Lastly, I am downright mad that Ashley "the dentist" is going to be the next Bachelorette. I couldn't stand her or her voice all season, and will definitely not be watching her season this summer.
What were your thoughts on the finale?

Five Friday Faves

I've decided to start a new little Friday segment here on CAwife, compiled of
5 of my current favorite things!
Feel free to steal the icon at the top and play along if you'd like.

Bethenny Ever After
I absolutely love Bethenny and her show!  She's funny and honest, and I just love to watch the happenings of her life.  I'm so glad her show is back, and will be an avid watcher this season.

Rolling in the Deep by Adele
My iTunes has been having issues forever so I haven't been able to buy Adele's new album yet, but I play this video on YouTube at least a few times a day. I even stopped fast forwarding during commercials to listen to this song on the I Am Number Four trailer!  That's love people!

Emily on The Bachelor
If absolutely gorgeous, Disney-princess-like Emily doesn't win The Bachelor I think I might cry.  Not only is she beautiful, but she's extremely kind and has always kept it classy on the show.  I love, love, love her!

Our Weather
I will likely be obnoxious about our gorgeous weather for the next month or so, and I promise it's not to rub it in.  It will simply get unbearably hot pretty soon, so I'm trying to soak it all up while I can!

Summer in 57 DAYS!
My official summer countdown has finally hit a reasonable number... WOOHOO!!!  Anything less than 60 seems manageable at this point.

Lastly, don't forget to enter for your chance to win an adorable Pecan Pie Puppies collar for your pup!  The giveaway ends tonight at 5 p.m. Pacific Time!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Spring Shoe Obsessions

I've never been much of a shoe girl, but that has changed this spring!  I'm spying adorable shoes everywhere and I want them all.

Here are the shoes that would round out my spring wardrobe quite nicely:

Marguerite Leather Wedges, J.Crew
I actually got these for my birthday but had to include them because they are my ideal shoe for spring!
I can't wait to wear these as much as possible!

Deseree Leather Sandal, J.Crew
These are main contenders for the new black sandals that I need.
These are the black sandals I desperately want, but can't quite justify the price for.
Patent Square Miller Sandal, Tory Burch
I absolutely love these in orange.
I definitely don't need $200 orange patent sandals, but they'd be so fun!

TOMS 'Classic' Glitter Slip-Ons, Nordstrom
I've debated about TOMS since this fall, but got a pair for Christmas and LOVE THEM!
They aren't much to look at, but they are the most comfortable shoes in the world.  Think UGGS for Spring!

Sperry Metallic Top-Siders, Nordstrom
I've been obsessed with these metallic Sperry's since J.Crew carried them last spring, and am so glad they're back this spring!  They're the perfect shiny addition to any preppy outfit.

I'm still searching for the perfect pair of black wedges, but otherwise I think these shoes will have me covered.  Now if I could only get them all for 50% off, or get a huge spring shopping bonus at work I'd really be set.

What spring shoes are you eyeing?
